Garden District Tours in New Orleans

Yes. This is a daytime walking tour through a beautiful residential neighborhood. There's nothing scary or age-inappropriate. Kids who are old enough to walk for about two hours will do fine. Strollers work on most of the route since it's all sidewalks.

You'll get close to the mansions, go into Lafayette Cemetery, and hear detailed stories about the architecture and residents. The City Sightseeing Tour ($59) covers the Garden District by vehicle plus six other neighborhoods in a two-hour driving loop (plan on 2.5-3 hours total with hotel pickup and drop-off). The walking tour goes deeper on the Garden District specifically. The city tour goes wider.

On the walking tour, yes. You'll go inside the 1859 Opera Guild Home, a restored antebellum mansion that's one of the highlights. The other mansions along the route are private residences, so you'll see those from the sidewalk while your guide shares the history behind the facades. The City Sightseeing Tour doesn't go inside mansions, but you'll stop at Cafe Du Monde in City Park and visit St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.

About 2 miles. The St. Charles streetcar runs directly between the two, takes about 20 minutes, and costs $1.25 each way. Many visitors ride the streetcar there and Uber back, or walk down Magazine Street after the tour for shopping and food.
