A small covered boat on the Honey Island Swamp, up to 6 guests, a full 90 minutes on the water. Every guest is guaranteed to hold a live baby alligator with a state-licensed captain. Self-drive to Pearl River, 35 miles north of New Orleans. $99 per person.
“They were super friendly, offered ways to save money, and even provide transportation. Our swamp guide was awesome, took us up close and personal to gators. Definitely recommend!”
“Lenny was very knowledgeable and helpful when booking the tour! Would definitely book again.”
“Lenny was great and helped us out, highly recommend him. He was very knowledgeable of all the sites and tours.”
This is our only swamp tour that guarantees every guest on board will hold a live baby alligator. The boat carries up to 6 guests on the Honey Island Swamp, 35 miles north of New Orleans. Where most swamp tours out of New Orleans run 45 to 70 passenger pontoons and airboats, this is a small, intimate ride led by a captain who holds a state alligator exhibitor's license. That permit is what turns the baby gator hold into a guarantee instead of a maybe.
Glide under the cypress canopy of one of the least-altered river swamps in America while your captain tells you the stories that made this stretch of water famous. Somewhere along the way, you'll cradle a live baby alligator in your own hands. If your captain's in a talkative mood, you might also hear why locals still trade stories about the Honey Island Swamp Monster and what a retired air traffic controller claimed to find out here back in the '60s. The boat runs a full 90 minutes on the water, with time on either side for the educational presentation and photos.
If you've ever wanted to hold a baby alligator and come home with proof, this is the tour. Drive out to meet the captain at Pearl River and spend an hour and a half on the water in a boat built for 6 instead of 60. Small boat. Real swamp. Guaranteed gator.

Pilot Travel Center, Pearl River, LA
65583 Pump Slough Rd., Pearl River, LA 70452 (I-59, Exit 5A)
You're driving out to a brand-new Pilot Travel Center on the edge of the Honey Island Swamp, 35 miles north of New Orleans. Straight up I-10 across Lake Pontchartrain, then a short hop north on I-59 to Exit 5A. About 40 minutes in good traffic, which is roughly the same drive time as our south-shore airboat tours just in the opposite direction. You literally cannot miss it from the interstate. It's a 20,000 square foot travel plaza with 127 truck parking lanes. Plan to arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled departure time. Park in the regular car lot, walk into the main Pilot building, and ask at the swamp tour check-in desk inside the gift shop area. Let the staff know you're there for a Gators & Ghosts swamp tour and they'll get your captain. Yes, it looks unusual from the interstate. Yes, it really is right on the swamp. It's one of the more unusual meeting points you'll find in Louisiana, and the reward for the weird drive is one of the most pristine river swamps in America.
Three things. First, it's on the Honey Island Swamp, a pristine river swamp on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Most of our other swamp tours go through the bayou country south of the city, so this is a different ecosystem and a different feel. Second, the ride is quiet and laid back like our pontoon tours, but the boat only holds 6 guests, more like our most premium airboats in terms of how small and nimble it is. Third, and most importantly, this is the only tour we offer where you're guaranteed to hold a live baby alligator. Our captain holds a state alligator exhibitor's license, which almost nobody else has.
For real. Every guest on this tour gets to hold a baby alligator, and yes, you can plant a little smooch on its snout for the photo if you want. The baby gators are cared for under the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries ranching program and eventually released back into the swamp. You're literally participating in one of the great conservation success stories in America, which has returned over a million alligators to the wild. Feel good about the kiss.
Completely. The captain handles all the transfers, the babies are gentle, and their little teeth are not going to get through your fingers. Kids love it. Grandparents love it. The gators are mildly unimpressed by all of it.
The Pilot Travel Center at I-59 Exit 5A in Pearl River, Louisiana. 35 miles north of New Orleans (about 40 minutes in good traffic), straight up I-10 across Lake Pontchartrain and a short hop north on I-59. Yes, it's at a travel plaza. Yes, it's also right on the swamp. It's also the only swamp tour in Louisiana that can guarantee you'll hold a baby alligator, so the trade-off is worth it.
BYOB is welcome on private buyouts (when your group has booked the whole boat for itself). On regular per-person trips the boat may be shared with other guests, so alcohol isn't allowed on board. Want BYOB? Request a private buyout through our private swamp tour inquiry form at /private-swamp-tours. $594 for the boat, up to 6 guests, no glass containers.
Not for this one. Guests drive themselves. We know that's different from our other swamp tours, but this location doesn't have a shuttle setup yet. If you don't have your own car, renting one for the day or taking a rideshare are both workable options. If you go the rideshare route, schedule your return trip in advance because drivers aren't always sitting around off the interstate.
Maximum 6 guests per boat. Even on a full trip you're never more than a few feet from the captain or the baby gator. If your group wants exclusive use of the boat, you can request a private buyout (6 guests, $594) through our private swamp tour inquiry form at /private-swamp-tours.
Yes. Submit a request through our private swamp tour inquiry form at /private-swamp-tours and select Kiss-A-Gator. Buyouts are $594 for up to 6 guests, BYOB welcome on the whole boat (no glass containers), and we will confirm your date and process payment directly.

All ages welcome on this tour. The boat is small and is not wheelchair accessible. Guests who need wheelchair access should book our covered pontoon swamp tour instead. No pets or service animals are allowed on this or any of our swamp tours. Alligators are wild predators and a dog on board is a safety risk to the dog. Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled departure and follow your captain's instructions at all times.
Sit in a covered boat for 90 minutes. Minimal physical demand. The only requirements are being able to step onto the boat and sit comfortably for an hour and a half.
